2021 Highlights From Around the Globe
Germany
In 2020, we committed €3.75 million to The Nature Conservancy’s Urban Greening program in Germany. In 2021, the program developed mapping and analysis for roofs, grasslands, and urban streetscapes in Berlin for greening potential.

Canada
In June 2021, Amazon announced our largest renewable energy project in Canada. Once online, Amazon’s renewable energy projects in Canada will produce more than 1 million megawatt-hours each year—enough to power more than 100,000 Canadian homes.

Tanzania
Government officials and the State University of Zanzibar are using the Digital Earth Africa platform to monitor the degradation of mangrove trees. The data, hosted on AWS, has helped leaders understand the need to restore mangroves and led to an effort to plant thousands of seeds.
Singapore
In March 2021, we announced our first renewable energy project in Singapore, a 62-megawatt solar project made up of a series of solar panels mounted on a ground system. The project is expected to generate 80,000 megawatt-hours of clean energy annually.

Brazil
We partnered with the Nature Conservancy to launch the Agroforestry and Restoration Accelerator. The Accelerator will restore native rainforest to naturally trap and store carbon, while also creating a more sustainable source of income for thousands of local farmers in Brazil.

Australia
We supported Solcast, an Australian company that builds solar forecasts using cloud cover, solar radiation, and photovoltaic power data. The forecasts help solar producers predict the amount of solar irradiance and the amount of solar photovoltaic energy that their farms may receive.
Indonesia
Through partnerships with Water.org and WaterAid in India and Indonesia, we have provided clean water to more than 250,000 community members.
India
We’re adding 10,000 electric vehicles to our existing fleet in India, including two-wheeler, three-wheeler, and four-wheeler vehicles built by local manufacturers.

South Africa
In 2021, Amazon’s first operational solar project in South Africa started to supply clean, renewable energy to the grid. Located in the Northern Cape province, the 10-megawatt solar project is expected to generate up to 28,000 megawatt-hours of renewable energy per year.

Italy
In 2021, Amazon committed €2 million to support Parco Italia, an urban forestry program that aims to plant 22 million trees across 14 metropolitan areas in Italy. Amazon’s support for this project will help increase urban biodiversity, improve air quality, and promote urban cooling.
haiti
Following an earthquake that hit Haiti in August 2021, we donated more than 59,000 emergency items, including shelter equipment, collapsible water containers, solar chargers, water filters, clean-up supplies, and medical equipment.
ukraine
As of April 2022, Amazon has donated over $35 million to help Ukrainian refugees. We opened humanitarian aid hubs in Slovakia and Poland to provide relief to support Ukrainian refugees.
